Why not put Solid state batteries into production?
2022-08-09 18:00These days, the news of solid-state batteries has been exposed frequently, and some battery manufacturers have been scrambling to expose the research progress of solid-state batteries. What is the charm of solid-state batteries that attracts many large enterprises to compete for research and development?
In theory, solid-state batteries have endurance, longer life, and stronger stability and safety.
At present, the positive and negative electrodes of the lithium-ion battery are connected by liquid electrolyte, while the solid-state battery is directly connected by solid composite materials with less or without electrolyte.
As the solid-state battery does not need electrolyte, the volume can be further compressed and the energy density of the battery will be greater.
The most fundamental reason why lithium batteries are easy to burn is that the electrolyte which conducts ions is extremely flammable. The electrolyte reduction of solid-state batteries or even the complete absence of electrolyte can solve the problem of flammability of the battery pack from the root, and at the same time, the battery life is greatly increased.
But why is a solid-state battery a theoretical battery?
As the electrolyte used in the lithium-ion battery is very active, the internal resistance of the battery is small. However, the activity of solid electrolyte is certainly difficult to match that of electrolyte. If no suitable material can be found, how can solid-state batteries be produced? What's more, after the R&D is completed, it is necessary to control the cost and mass production, and finally put it into the market for testing.
