Now the relatively common and highly recognized by the public of lithium battery are mainly NMC and LiFePO4 . So, how to distinguish between the use of the battery is a NMC and LiFePO4 batteries? The following is a brief introduction to the method.


For the average consumer, the easiest way to distinguish wether the battery is NMC or LiFePO4 , is to check the battery data of vehicle configuration table , usually manufacturers will be marked in the battery information within the type of battery.


Also can be distinguished by looking at the power battery system data on the body nameplate, there are  LiFePO4 version and NMC version.


By comparing the nameplate data of the car, it can be found that LiFePO4 version of the battery voltage rating will be higher than NMC version, while the NMC version battery has greater rated capacity than the LiFePO4 version.

 

In addition, compared with the NMC and LiFePO4 battery, NMC battery cell has higher energy density and better low-temperature discharge performance, while LiFePO4 battery cell is more advantageous in terms of life, manufacturing costs and safety. If you find yourself buying a long-range model, or in the winter low-temperature environment, range decay than other models, it is almost a NMC battery cell, and on the contrary is LiFePO4 battery cell.

The features of NMC: Good low-temperature performance,and the limit of the operating temperature can reach to -30 degrees. But its disadvantage is the low thermal runaway temperature, only 200 degrees, in some hot areas, spontaneous combustion phenomenon is prone to occur.


The features of LiFePO4: LiFePO4 battery cell has a longer development history, it is characterized by good stability, and high thermal runaway temperature, can reach 800 degrees. That is, if the temperature does not reach 800 degrees, lithium iron phosphate will not catch fire. Only it is more afraid of cold, in colder temperatures, the battery decay will be more powerful.
